The terrible way that the white man tricked and deceived Indigenous people into giving up their lands has been a continuous source of anguish for me, as it has been for others. This was an act of thievery. The Reckoning, however, did not end here. The white man also wanted furs and feathers from our First People, items we bartered for for centuries, incorporating them in our frivolous fashions. We did not stop until we had caused a near extinction of the buffalo herds and decimated their cultures with alcohol.
